Live Music Denver

Thomas asks…
Live music and good food in Colorado?
I’m spending the month of September in Colorado – mostly metro-Denver, but I don’t mind the drive to Boulder or similar. I’d like to find a few jazz clubs downtown and check out some smaller venues for (non-radio type) music. I’m also searching for a few good restaurants – Thai, Indian, fusion, organic, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

answers:
I completely agree with Marci on the Thai food at Tommy T’s – it’s delish! I also love Watercourse for brunch (and/or anytime) – their vegetarian food will make anybody happy. They also have another restaurant called City-O-City that’s amazing too.
As far as underground music venues go, there are a TON of good ones! Hi-Dive is one of my favorites – it definitely lives up to it’s name as a “dive”, but I’ve seen some of the best indie bands ever play there. They’re also attached to a bar / restaurant called Sputnik that has awesome food.
Larimer Lounge is another dive that’s awesome for underground live music with a wide variety of sound.
As far as Jazz goes, Dazzle is a great place for a low-key jazz evening – and they have an AWESOME happy hour!
Hope that helps!

Maria asks…
Where is the prettiest place to live around Denver?
My wife and I (im 30, she is 25) are seriously considering a move to the Denver area from Long Beach. We want to know where the most pleasant places to live around Denver are. We want to buy a house in the 275K to 325K range and are expecting a child.
We are positioned on the liberal end of the political spectrum. We want to be close to the action (theater, museums, live music, cool stuff, etc). We want to stay away from: crime, uglyness and douche bags (aka people who would easily be cast in the movie Ideocracy).
We want to leave Long Beach because it is pretty dirty, smoggy, traffic is the worst, most of the city is ghetto, and we cant buy a decent two bedroom condo in a decent enough area for less than 375K or so. Being by the beach has become a little over rated. Long beach has been closed at least a half dozen times due to sewage spills, not my idea of fun in the sun.

answers:
I’d say around Littleton, it’s a quaint suburb with cool school in the Littleton Public Schools area. Some of the neighborhoods, like Bow Mar and Bow Mar South, have some private lakes and pools and parks and many kids live there, and they have plenty of fun things to do around this area. The houses are nice, most have large yards and homes, and if you want your house closed off from the public some of the areas are private neighborhoods. This is where I grew up and it’s a really great, healthy place to live.

William asks…
Does anyone live in Denver?
After College, I’d like to being my music and single live in Denver. I’ve visited a few times, and I’m a Bronco fan. I also would like to get into coaching/teaching too. Should I move to the city, or some small town outside of it?

answers:
I would live outside of Denver, it’ll be a little cheaper. We have good bus service and light rail service.
Don’t put the cart before the horse, Get a job first, than decide where to live.

Chris asks…
Should I live in Denver or Boulder?
I am 24 yrs old, finished college at University of Tennessee a year ago, and looking for a 1-2 year adventure…want to get out of Tennessee and explore Colorado for the next few years. A little about me:
1. I am an outdoor enthusiast…I will want to hike and snowboard every weekend
2. I like the conveniences of a city, but don’t need a huge metropolitan area. Having grown up in Nashville, and moving to Knoxville for college, I like Knoxville a lot more because it is in the heart of the Smokey’s but still maintains some city flavor.
3. I’m not into the college scene anymore…at all. My idea of a great night would be eating early at a great local restaurant and listening to some live music somewhere relaxing with wine
4. I want to be surrounded by genuine people – I’ve heard Boulder is yuppy – am I right?
5. I’ve been working in the marketing department for a real estate firm in Nashville for the past year and love it…I have also completed half of my masters degree in teaching so I could probably land a last-minute teaching job…and have lots of customer service experience. I don’t want a dead-end job…I will be looking for something that looks good on my resume and/or gives me a new experience in a new career field.
I’m not planning on visiting either place…just picking a place and going…
ANY advice would be great!!!

answers:
I have been visiting Colorado for the past 6 years because my sister went to college there and continues to live there.
Yes, Boulder is a college town so it is yuppy and expensive. BUT, the people are really nice and very friendly. Actually, almost everywhere in Colorado that I’ve been to had really friendly people.
Denver is just like any busy city. It’s about 45 minutes away from Boulder. Denver’s not as yuppy as Boulder is and you’ve got a wider selection of things to do and it has the conveniences of a city.
Boulder is nestled right at the foot of the Rockies so it’s perfect if you want outdoor adventures. Also, Boulder is just BEAUTIFUL.
If you don’t want to live in Boulder b/c of the price/college town, you can always live in suburbs that are close to it, such as Louisville, Longmont, Broomfield, Niwot…
I would recommend living in one of the suburbs.

James asks…
Is Denver Colorado an enjoyable place to live a a young person?
Does it have a music scene? Is it in tune with culture and diversity. What is the weather like?

answers:
In my opinion Denver is a great town for young people. Not sure what type of music scene you are into, but there is always live music somewhere around town. Plus the city has a bunch of different sized venues that bring in a wide aspect of acts. Typically if a band is doing a national tour Denver is a stop. The Mass transit system known as RTD is great and makes living without a car possible. If you are into sports Denver has all the major sports plus smaller ones like the MLS, Lacrosse, and Arena Football. Culture and diversity aspect is hit or miss but it is there. The weather is great and when it does snow in the winter it usually melts within a couple days ( last year was a fluke) Colorado Brews more beer than any other state in the nation and Denver has some great microbrews.

Where to live??? Denver vs Seattle vs Home (hawaii)?
We’ve got 3 1/2 years left in the military. Time is flying it seems. I am 23 years old, my wife is 21. Where should we move based on your personal experiences? I know nothing about Seattle other than the obvious…(Laid back population, rainy & green, artsy). My wife and I go to Denver every now and then (we are stationed in South Dakota and make the 6 hour drive to Denver whenever we can afford an escape from this place). We love how outdoorsy people are they. We know about the 300 days of sun. (is denver really an awesome place to live or do we just feel in awe over it simply because of where we currently live?) How are the people in both cities? How does the cultural aspects of each stack up to one another? How’s the music/art scene in each? How’s the food? Any advice from someone who’s been to one or even BOTH would be awesome. Thanks in advance! (I do not need any information on Hawaii. I lived there for a few years and my wife was there from the age of 5 to 20.) Thanks!!!

answers:
Both Denver and Seattle are beautiful scenic locations with lots going on. I would probably choose Seattle if money were not an issue. The people in Denver are very friendly and polite, although in Seattle you will definitely meet folks from everywhere. As far as restaurants go, you will find a wider variety in Seattle. Also, being in Seattle, you would be next door to Vancouver which is gorgeous.
